Question:

How do I get rid of a cat?

Here is my problem. My boyfriend has a cat that pees and poos throughout the house, even though it has a box (in front of the washing machine) that use to be next to the refrigerator. I lock my office so it can't do it there. He complains that I don't clean the house, which is true, but if I were alone I would NOT have a cat for this very reason. I DO NOT Clean fecal matter, and have to go elsewhere to do my laundry. Am I over reacting? What do I do?

  1. Who pays the rent? If you do, then tell him the cat goes. If he pays it or you share it, you can always move out. Not many humans would live in this kind of filth.

  2. cat's need clean litter

they pop other places when stressed (like you being a new person in his owners life)

Cleaning the whole house helps, piles of laundry and papers and stuff are inviting places to pee.

  3. Buy a spray bottle and fill it with watter then adjust the nozzle to a stream and ambush the little bugger.  It,s fun too!

  4. If the cat's box is not clean it's no wonder he don't use it. Poor kitty!! plus it sounds like you have the litter box in a bad location, the noise probably scares the cat.!!!

  5. cat in car drive ten miles cat out of car

  6. Hi,

it sounds like kitty is having some issues.

did kitty always do this or is this new?

a change in litter box placement can be hard for a kitty to adjust to, and it definitely needs to be a clean box.  i like the scoopable litter, scoop it once a day, refill as necessary until the litter seems unclean.

with regular litter, the urine sinks to the bottom and ferments, and kitty will be very unhappy about having to stick his little feet in there and then dig around in his urine.  the litter also requires more frequent changing, so it may not actually be that much cheaper than the scoopable in the end.  i like the fresh step lavender scented.  i don't know what kitty likes, but he uses the box without fail so i guess the lavender doesn't bother him.

periodically i empty the litter box, chuck it in the tub, grab some rubber gloves, the oldest sponge, and some soft scrub with bleach.  scrub entire box, let sit 10 minutes to disinfect, then rinse absolutely thoroughly.  refill box, kitty jumps in before i'm through.

periodically i wipe down the top/sides with a clorox disinfecting wipe, every couple or few days.  sweep daily.

they can be particular about where the box is.  they generally prefer low-traffic areas and places that aren't unpredictable - as a laundry room can be when changing cycles, buzzing, etc...

i have a small apartment and have resorted to keeping the litter next to the tub - very important to sweep before showering.  it's not the ideal place, but i don't have a basement anymore.  but, kitty seems happy with it - or has no complaints anyway, and he will often join me for a pee.  he seems to like that, too.

also, kitty may sense you are displeased with him, and that could be affecting him.  he could be acting out.  rebelling, so to speak.  he could be angry and upset.

maybe you could try to make friends with the little guy and see if that doesn't alleviate some of his issues.

kitties are like kids - if you treat them well they love you and behave.  if you treat them badly and make them feel unloved they get spiteful, act out, and are very unhappy.  dogs respond well to punishment, cats and most kids do not.

i totally get that you don't want to clean up his waste, it's not a fun job.  but, that could be contributing to his unhappiness as well.  who wants to smell that all day?  they have a better sense of smell than we do.  plus, if he smells the ammonia it may prompt him to reuse those areas - so, when it gets cleaned ammonia should not be used and the ammonia smell from his urine needs to be thoroughly cleaned.

see if you can't view kitty as your boyfriends child, someone that he loves, and you can't get rid of him, so you may as well make friends with him.

he doesn't require much to be happy.  just food, clean water, clean litter box, and periodic full-attention and affection to keep him going until nap time.  unlike children, a spoiled cat is a happy cat.  talk to him, sing to him, give him attention when he wants it - just spend a few minutes until he is content and moves on.  grab a wadded up piece of paper and play ball, or a fishing pole with a feather or paper towel tied to the end of the line and get him to run and jump.  great fun for all.  truly.

the angrier and more frustrated and neglectful of him that you are the unhappier the little fellow will be.

please consider making friends, i promise you will all be happier.

i called him a 'he' throughout because you refer to kitty as 'it'... please accept this little being that means a lot to your boyfriend.  he's just a little thing that sleeps 18 hours a day.  the sound of purring is such a soothing sound, and it actually lowers the blood pressure.  the next time you are angry or frustrated with kitty, how about you try to scoop him up, or cuddle up to him and listen to him purr.  it just might make you both feel better.

    that's all i got

    Best Wishes

  7. You can't just off the cat. Make sure your bf keeps his litter clean. If the litter box has a cover, take it off and see if it changes anything. I once had a cat who poo'd and pee'd everywhere because he was claustrophobic or something, he wouldn't go in a covered box, but he had no problem when we took the top off.

  8. Leave the outside door open!

  9. um well tell your boyfriend its either you or the cat and hopefully he will get rid of the cat

  10. Tell him its you or the cat.

  11. You could always take it to a vet and say that it is a stray..

  12. In my opinion... its his cat, his responsibility to take care of and clean up after it. I wouldn't say your over reacting at all! I would not be able to take having a cat messing all over my house.

As for what to do... well, talk to your boyfriend and let him know how you feel about it. If he is a pain about the whole thing, maybe consider looking elsewhere.
