Recently their has been an invasion of Snails in my Garden and my neighbours, this has never happened before my neighbor installed a pond last year would that attract them?

Also I keep removing them and putting them in a nearby field but they reappear overnight, what can I do and any advice on how to keep them out?

Thank you for your replies!.

  1. Use Epson salt. Sprinkle it over the garden area. It is great for your plants too. Snails Hate salt.

You can mix it in water and spray the foliage to kill the babies.

  2. Leave them.  They are cleaning up the rubbish.  Very important creatures, otherwise you would have green slime/algae stuff growing everywhere - especially on patios.  Slippery stuff.

These guys love this as their main food-stuff.  Keeping everything clean!

  3. CRUSH THEM SO THEY CAN'T COME BACK. D:<

  4. Hi

It's doubtful that they're the same snails returning I've never heard of homing snails, everything on this planet is there for a purpose take time out, look at the patterns on the shells, watch them move around as they eat up the algae, when one snail meets another the first thing they appear to do is kiss, notice how cute the baby snails are they're a mirror image of fully grown snails, don't worry about them if as you say your neighbour has a pond then frogs will follow soon and they'll take care of the snails and slugs.

    Ray. West York's. U.K.

  5. If your yard isn't to big you could sprinkle some salt like epsom's salt around especially the edges.  Don't know if the pool will draw them

  6. salts the answer it shrivells them up

  7. put salt around the flower beds that you don't want them in. Salt dries up the snails and kills them, if they come across it, they won't go through it.

  8. Invite a hungry Frenchman over for dinner...

  9. I'm almost positive that salt will attract other animals...  If you dont have pets, the easiest think I can think of would be to just go buy yourself some snail bait.  Its usually sold by the gallon and comes in little pellets.  Again, its important that if you have animals you don't use it because the pellets kinda look like dog food.

    Good Luck!

  10. Fill a few empty tubs or bowls with beer.

Place them in the grass and on your paths.

    Snails love it.

In the morning they will have all kicked it from alcohol poisoning.

  11. Snails are attracted to the dead or decaying materials around yours or your neighbour's yard. Try to remove any decaying material and thus remove the food supply. Regular beer and NOT light beer will attract and drown slugs. Non chemical remedies: Place a wooden board near the affected area and physically remove snails in the morning. Circle or "ring" the area with talc or wood ashes as this dries out the "slime" and inhibits the movement and dries out the snail. Snails prefer moist areas so avoid heavy mulch or manures. Chemical; try a metaldehyde slug poison. Snails will eat almost any plant from lettuce to tulips to sweet peas. Any animal will travel a large distance , in comparison to size, to eat. Be aggresive and determined to protect your investment. Salt may be a deterrent but will attract other forms of wildlife.

Whoa... after submitting this answer, I see the response from the UK.  Do you wish to trade snails for frogs? I am not trying to cynical but when did snails become a major food source for frogs? Remove the initial problem...FIRST.

  12. snails arnt bad, remove slugs

  13. I had the same problem.  I got a HUGE box of slug and snail killer from Costco and sprinkled a thick line just around my planter beds and certain plants that they seem to be attracted to and the stuff really worked!  And while doing it, I threw the ones I found in the street to crack their shells and dye.  Better them than my plants!

  14. Salt will stop them dead !

  15. Get a hedgehog.
