  1. the best way is to call a vocational school and see if they wont it they use them to teach and they will remove the freon from it too

  2. If you want some extra cash take it apart and remove the aluminum and copper and take it all to a scrap yard/recycling company and trade it in for cash... copper is at an all time high... Just a thought..

  3. If you have freon, local bulk pickup will not takw that unit. You can call your local community college or high school and see if they can use teh freon. Often local schools get donations for their science labs. But if you still have the entire A/C unit...you should call your county office and ask to speak to someone in the waste management department. they should be able to tell you what to do with it.

If it is still usuable or has good parts, you could part it on a webiste called FREECYCLE. This is a website where people can get rid of their old unwanted items.

  4. often the local pickup won't take an air conditioner.  they have freon or other coolants under pressure which is considered hazardous waste and requires special tools to drain.  even if it's drained, the trash pickup people wouldn't know and will assume it's not, and just leave it.  my town has a local landfill (as well as local pickup) and residents can drop that stuff off.  so check with your town.  or like the other poster said, look for a scrap metal dealer, they might even give you a couple of bucks for it.

  5. If you have already had it removed by a professional and it is just the condenser unit, then yes, you can probably put it out for bulk pick up. If it is still attached to your house then you need to have a licensed professional come and remove the freon before you do anything else.

Also, try finding a metal recycling operation nearby- they will often pay you pretty good money for all the stuff that is in those units...
