  1. Do you mean burned COOKING pot smell?  If the burning process released a lot of smoke, those smoke particles have covered every surface on every bit of wall and furniture it came into contact with.

Without cleaning everything, your best bet is to mop the floors, clean the carpet, if any, as well as any furniture that was exposed.

Another possibility is to air out the house really well on a warm day - the warmth will help accelerate the release of smoke particles and any volatile components they may have.   As well, oxygen in the atmosphere will gradually decompose some of those odors, and with time, the smell will drop below the detectable level (for the human nose, at least).

Lastly, there are room deodorizers out there that function by neutralizing many smell molecules - maybe look for one of those (not the ones that simply mask a smell, be sure it's one that has the capacity to neutralize smells).

  2. Set up fans so air will blow out.  Open all the windows, turn on all the fans, and air the place out, really well.

Then, spray every single exposed fabric (draperies, rugs, upholstery, pillows, etc.) with Fabreze.  (I like the citrus smell.)

Turn off the fans, close the windows, and light up some incense (at least two sticks per room) and burn them for a couple of hours.

    This should solve your problem.

About the pot:  If it is still sitting in the sink, dump out the water in the pot and pour in white vinegar and let it sit for at least 24 hours.  This will remove the burnt on stuff, and also eliminate the burnt smell.
