How do I get rid of computer viruses?

Question

So basically my anti-virus expired and I'm a complete dummy when it comes to computers.

I know I have a whole load of viruses and I want to get rid of them quickly.

I would go to a professional to get this done but I was just wondering if I could do something by myself without buying anything and saving my money?

My computer isn't even old it's pretty new I would say about 2 years.

ANYWAYS.

If someone can post/message me on something that I can do to make my computer run faster and get rid of my viruses I would REALLLLY appreciate it.

When I got a few viruses, my HD was so full and the computer so slow, I just decided to use KillDisk and wipe my hard drive. I then reinstalled XP and my computer runs muuuuch faster. Very fast and easy. But, you have to reinstall drivers for stuff to work again. But if you have a dell or I think an HP you can go on their website and they have drivers already there. Or if you have a disc. Make sure you have a disc too if you KillDisk your computer, then start the computer from D drive and you got you got a clean slate.

There are several you can get online that are free versions.

One of more popular, and one I use is Spybot.  It will also guard your registry from being hit, and it also has regular updates.

You will find other free versions suggested.  I suggest you use one regularly (such as Spybot), but have a couple others installed, but turned off.  Then once a week or every couple weeks, unplug your computer from the internet, and then spend couple hrs cleaning with ALL the different antispy programs (one at a time, of course).  A single program does NOT protect against everything.  Using 2 or 3 of them to clean will help make sure that most everything is covered.

There is also a very popular one-step program called Advanced Windows Care, which cleans, dusts, scrubs the floors, and even does windows (har-har!).  They've been upgrading it lately, so it is more effective.  But remember, to keep ONLY ONE of the cleaning programs on all the time, otherwise, they will fight each other.

There's some other good cleaning programs, such as Eusing Registry Cleaner, and Auslogic Disk Defrag.  Those will also help your computer to run better.  Good luck.
