Question:

How do I get rid of fleas from my new home?

I have just moved into a my new house. From day one I have been covered in bites. I thought it was from being out in the garden a lot, but after talking to my new neighbours they thought it might be fleas because the previous owners had quite a few cats and dogs and no one else living around here is bothered by bites. Most of the house has wooden floors apart from the bedrooms. I have shampooed the carpets, hoovered the beds and washed all of our bedding, curtains and clothes. Just wondering if there is anything else I can do before I have to pay pest control to deal with the problem. All ideas welcome please!

  1. You can get some flee spray from pet shops for your carpets/furniture, it is by a company called Bob Martin. Spray it all over the place, you may need 2 or 3 cans, now all the pets have gone the flees will die eventually anyway, this stuff will speed things up.

  2. go and buy some home flea spray and flea powder

spray everything that is material in the home and get right under the cushions on your settee also sprinkle the powder over carpets and leave over night do this 3 times a week before you go to bed

you need something that will also kill the eggs as flea eggs can lie domant for years so make sure the suff you buy kills the eggs aswell as the fleas

this should get rid of the fleas

  3. My brother had this problem and we bought those bug bombs, shut and sealed up the house good and set a bomb off in every room, we left the house shut up tight for the entire day and night. Then we went in opend up a couple of windows set a fan up  and aired it out then began to clean the flees were dead and gone and so were spiders and other unwanted critters in the house. Problem was solved.

  4. Call your local council I don't think you have to pay, they should send a team out to fumigate the house, it should then be clean. Hope this helps.

  5. I have lots of rats in mine. See video

  6. I had the same problem when I moved into my house some 11 years ago.  The previous owners had cats and the carpets were all deep pile!

The fleas seemed to love me and me alone - no one else got bitten!!

Assuming you are in the UK, instead of paying out for expensive pest control go to your local vet surgery and ask for a can of Acclaim flea control powder for the home.  It should cost about £10/£12.  You might be able to get it in Pets at Home or Pampurred Pets also.  Or look it up online.  Don't buy the cheaper ones - they don't work as well.

You said you have hoovered and shampooed the carpets and floors.  This should help but the Acclaim is excellent.  I now have two cats and two dogs and, although they are Frontlined, I still spray the house a couple of times a year.  It really works!

Good luck and hope you are happy in your new house!

  7. salt the floor a lot

  8. I had the same problem when I moved into this house, i tried everything. Believe me, everything there is available out there i tried it and they kept coming back!!

Eventually we paid a bloke to flea bomb the house, it only cost £40 but we had to stay out of the house for 8 hours i think it was!

I then came home, changed all the bedding, hoovered the carpets and cleaned the sofas and i saw nothing of them since!!

Ive since had laminate flooring and leather sofas so they cant survive very well now.

I also was covered in bites, mainly on my feet and ankles, they were the most irritating things ive ever had to deal with but i honestly would suggest saving your money on the things that don't work and just go straight to the pest bloke.

I think i spent about £70 on products, from wilkos, the vets, pet stores and everything else i could think of and nothing worked until we had the house flea bombed!!

Good luck and i hope you get a solution soon x*x

  10. buy a parrot they will eat them

  11. First set out a pan with water and a few drops of  Dishwashing Liquid set on the floor in a corner with a light over the pan they will be attracted to the light and fall in the soapy pan of water and die

Then kill the flea eggs by sprinkling Borax or Baking Soda or Salt on the floor and furniture all over even under the cushions and inside the furniture as fleas lay eggs everywhere this must be done thoroughly in order to eradicate the flees properly then vacuum up the next day thoroughly even closets must be treated as well with this method in order to kill the fleas

All clothes and bedding must be washed in the hottest water they can handle in order to kill the flees and their eggs  Good Luck !
