How do I get rid of fleas in the house?

Is there a natural way to get rid of them? The cat is gone--left her "buddies" behind. I have birds, sugargliders, and degus. They will die if exposed to chemicals. HELP, PLEASE!

  1. Ummmm...

You have many flies because of the food and defecation of your pets around the house/patio. You have to minimize this. Maintain all places cleaned and use disinfectant every day.

Then get a flea trap, it´s like a VERY sticky strip of tape that you can hang around the house.

    Also, check this link:

    or google: fighting fleas.

    hope this helps

  2. I have had success with using Borax.  It is a powdered laundry detergent.  You sprinkle it generously on all carpeting throughout the house, sweep it in well and leave it for as long as you can stand it there.  What happens is the flees get it in their mouths and when it gets wet it expands so that the flees can eat no more!  Then they die.  The idea is to leave it on as long as it takes several generations of flees to hatch and then die.  I try to leave it on for a couple weeks.  Sometimes I vacuum it up (dispose of the bag) and then reapply the borax.  There is nothing harmful about it.

I had to find a natural way to get rid of them when my daughter was a baby crawling around on the floor.

Goodluck!  They are awful little creatures.

  3. Go to a veterinarian and get a flea bomb! You have to leave the house for awhile during the fumigation, but it is either that or get a regular fumigation company to come in.

  4. Make appt. with professional exterminator and arrange to have every living thing (including plants) removed from home for as long as exterminator advises. Have other animals treated for fleas by VET while they are out.

Alternative is to burn down the house (not advised).

Now you know why a bit of money spent on animal flea control saves much in the long run.

  5. When my dogs had fleas (and once I got rid of the fleas on the dogs), I cut up one or two flea collars and put them in my vacuum cleaner bag and then vacuumed my whole house several times over.  I then removed the bag carefully and disposed of it.  After that, no more fleas.  You may have to do it a couple times, but it should definitely help.  No chemicals in your house, just in the vacuum.
