We have 2 cats and one dog, all of whom take frontline 1x monthly. In July we started noticing fleas around the house. There is one room where the dog sleeps that has hundreds on fleas, it's our guest room. Is there any way to get rid of them with out bombing?

  1. 20 Mule Team Borax-sprinkle and let stand for 24 hours.  I fired the bug man.  I now use this to keep all bugs out of my house and yard.  This is some trick here in Florida with all of the fire ants, palmetto bugs and lizards.  Besides it is better for the environment.  It can be purchased in any state still at Wal-mart.  It is with other insect repellants and chemicals.

  2. We bombed nad spent like 60$ doing it, and still had fleas, I did the same thing you did asked on the web and got a bunch of ideas. I did all of them once a week for two weeks and they are gone I dont know which one worked but I put rubbing alcohol, pine sol and dishwashing detergent all in he carpets the matresses. best of luck 2ya

  3. Today I went to the vet with the same problem:  He sold me ($17.00) a bottle of stuff to spray on the floors and the bedding of the dog and the places where our doggie sits/lies or sleeps.  Hope it works.

    It is called:Siphotrol Plus

  4. for the house i would call a pest control and for the animals use advantix it works way better than frontline and also try revolution if you can't get advantix ..good luck

  5. Give the animals a bath in DAWN blue dishwashing liquid.. It works I swear.. .Leave it on for as long as you can on each pet... It's better than using flea shampoo because of the chemicals.. You don't want to over-treat your pet(s)... You should also be using drops to treat the cats as well...

If you have a bag vacuum or canister get some cheapie flea collars and toss them into the bag/canister.. OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY... Just published a study that suggested just vacuuming EVERYDAY for a month would dramatically reduce the number of adult fleas by 90%!  That's pretty good... I up the % by sprinkling the carpets with a mixture of BAKING SODA and SALT and leaving it on overnight... I have a 1,700 square foot home and it cost about $10!  The baking soda smothers the adults/larve and the salt dissolves the eggs... Also, BS/SALT will deodorize AND pull excess dirt/debris from your carpeting!  So, it does double duty and is NOT harmful to people or pets...

Leave it on overnight and vacuum really through the next day.... Vacuum EVERYDAY for at least a month... In the guestroom... Strip the bed and wash the linens in HOT water and tumble dry on HIGH.  Vacuum the mattress.. You can sprinkle it with BS/SALT it won't hurt...

At night leave a desk lamp or other small light on with  a small dish or saucer of water with some dishsoap in it... The fleas are attracted to it and will jump in and drown....

You may depending on the infestation have to repeat this process but, it's NOT expensive and NOT harmful to people/pets.... The best thing is to vacuum regularly...

    Good luck

  6. Professional first, then regular treatment with Seven... I know once they start it's a battle. It can get worse!

  7. OMG, I own a carpet business & I went through this a couple of yrs ago.

The problem with fleas is they multiply so fast. They feed off of blood deposits in the carpet & can lay dormant for mo's.

They are attracted by vibration. I tried everything, bombs, home depot spray. I finally went to an exterminator & got this stuff called Conquer. You put it in a spray bottle & spray the entire floor, bed & furniture.

Well worth the investment. Trust me I lived in agony for mo's.
