Question:

How do I get rid of my muddy distortion?

I am using a Gibson LP Custom through a Marshall TSL 100. I like the Rhythm pick-up for my clean tone, however when I switch to distortion it is too muddy.

How can I clean it up? I have heard that some rigs use a pre-distortion EQ to take out the lows and then put them back in with another EQ post distortion; however I am using the Lead Channel right from the amp. How can I EQ pre-distortion on the lead channel?

  1. Buy an EQ pedal and run it through the FX loop. Or switch your pick-up to the lead when you go to your distortion channel.
