Question:

How do I get rid of phone calls that are nothing but a beeping sound when the phone is answered?

These occur several times a week . An attempt to reverse call states that it is an unavailable number. This same beeping sound is left on the answering machine for what appears to be the full allotted time for a message. The phone is registered on the no call listing as well as the no fax listing . Suspected it might be an incorrect number for a fax machine so registered for that as well. These calls even occur in the middle of the night or early morning.

  1. This is somebody thinking your phone number is a fax number. We had this problem for a while and still do on occasion.  If it's occurring in the middle of the night it's probably a telemarketing company. Look into one of those telemarketer-blocker gadgets that connect to your phone - we didn't end up needing one, but I think you can get them at Radio Shack. If not they'll know where to get one.

  2. Borrow a fax machine and plug it in overnight - assuming its not a junk fax the faxer's phone number is often on the top of the fax.  As an alternative, if you have a computer with an appropriate modem you can run a computer program to use your pc as a fax machine.
