How do I get rid of smoke smell on my raincoat?

I went camping and it was raining a bit so I used a raincoat. While having a pit campfire I hung my raincoat and didn't notice that the campfire smoke was getting to it. Now, after washing and soaking my raincoat in soapy water for three days I still could not get rid of the smoke smell.

  1. Sprinkle some baby powder on the interior of your coat  rub it in gently then hang it outside in the fresh  air for a day or so.

    That should work.

  2. Hang it in the sunshine for the day then turn it wrong side out and allow it to hang in the sunshine for the next day. Direct sunlight always works. This will also make sure to kill mold spores if any formed from being in water for three days. If you want to wash it again before hanging it out, wash in cool water with 1 cup baking soda (detergent not needed as the coat is technically clean) and then put 1 cup white vinegar into the rinse cycle (not fabric softener) then hang it in the sunshine. You can hang for half the day int eh sunshine and then turn it wrong side out and allow to hang the rest of the day and that should work just fine. I said what I did in the beginning as most people are not home during the day to turn it out half way through.

  3. I'm guessing its smoke from a woodfire.. i had the same problem with my anorak and found that washing in water did nothing until i was advised to air it out.. i left mine hanging on the washing line for a few days and it worked like a charm

  4. Febreze.
