How do I get rid of snakes in my yard?

I am paralyzed with fear when I see a snake. My husband has removed some from our new home's yard. I have not been able to do any landscaping because of this fear. Is there a natural repellant to get rid of snakes?

I would be feared to death if i lived somewhere that had possibilities of snakes being in the garden. Makes me shudder.l. hope you sort it. x

Get a couple hogs, they will rid wide area of any kind of snake, poison or not!

Keep your grass cut low.  Hang a fake owl from a low tree limb. Ask your local agricultural agent how to deter them.

Chickens eat snakes.  My Uncle had lots of snakes on his property (really, really high numbers of them) and he got some chickens, and about a week later there weren't any more.  The next day he saw the group of five chickens corner and eat a whole snake!

If you live in a rural area, this would be my solution.

A fake owl?  Are snakes deterred by owls?  :)  

Snakes are a good sign- don't kill him- just let it be as freaked of you, as you are of it!

(unless, of course, it's a king or rattler)

Do you know what kind of snakes? Because if the are garder snakes, then they keep rats and rodents away.  If they are other snakes, then be careful and look for some repellent.

"Research has shown that cinnamon oil, clove oil, and eugenol are effective snake repellents. Snakes will retreat when sprayed directly with these oils and will exit cargo or other confined spaces when these oils are introduced to the area."

And I am sorry, but snakes are DEAF, they are scared away by the dogs movements and vibrations they make when they run around.  And I see too many dogs come into my practice with snake bite wounds, so dogs can get bit too, this is not a good enough reason to get a dog. When you go outside in your garden for now, wear shoes (not sandals) and jeans, and scuffle and stamp your feet to make a lot of vibrations on the ground to startle and scare off snakes.

I understand some people have a natural fear of snakes (I don't-I have other embarrassing freaky phobia's) so I wish you the best in your snake problem! :)

im with you on that geez. Im terrified of them too.   Here read this, this might help you out.  Also, get a dog because it will bark and run around and snakes arent real happy about noise. I live in the woods and havent seen a snake here in 9 years. I have two dogs
