How do I get rid of that smell?!?!?

So, my fiance just recently bleached out our outside garbage can because it was kind of smelly. We keep this garbage can outside for trash pick up day and just throw our trash in it during the week until they pick it up. Anyway, I just get home from work today....and I about threw up everywhere!!! How do I get rid of this smell? You can even smell it from the sidewalk! It's unabearable!!!! Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks!

Get a new garbage can.

For my inside garbage can I put a couple of dryer sheets in the bottom.  After you get the smell "tamed" maybe you could try a small handful to keep it down?

baking soda or vinegar   wash and set set before rinsing.

Let it air out in the sun.  Also, crumple up a bunch of newspapers - they absorb odors.
