Question:

How do I get rid of the running horizontal lines on my PS3?

I have a 50" Sony Wega 1080i rear projection television that's about 3 years old. It doesn't have any HDMI inputs, so I am currently using component wires to run the system. I have tried running the PS3 in 480i, 720p, and 1080i; I have tried multiple component wires, and I have tried the original composite wires that come with the system, and I still can't get rid of these running horizontal lines coming from the bottom of the screen and going up. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Should I try a different blu-ray player? Thanks.

  1. Try putting one of these on the ps3 power cable. It might be a grounding problem and this is a quick fix. http://www.radioshack.com/sm-3-prong-gro...

  2. You have a grounding issue.  Try plugging the PS3 into a different outlet.  Try plugging the TV into a different outlet.  Ground the chassis of the PS3 to the TV (if possible).

Does this happen with only the PS3 or with any device you have hooked up to the TV?

If all else fails, get a 12ft copper ground stake and put it in the ground and run a wire to the outlet that is causing you the problems and ground the 3rd prong of the outlet to the ground stake.  Make sure that you disconnect the current wire that is attached to the 3rd prong.  This should solve your problem (last resort!).
