How do I get rid of the smell from underneath the pool after draining it?

I recently purchased an above ground pool. I filled it and found that it wasn't on level ground so I have to start over. Once I drained the pool and removed it from the area the absolute worst smell permeated my backyard. It still smells and it's been a day. It's awful.

  1. One of these two ways will work!

    1.  Spray the area with a Clorox and water solution.

If that does not work then use answer 2.

    2.  Spread Lime on the ground where pool was located.

also where you drained the water on ground from pool.

  2. I had the same problem. A little powdered lime from the hardware store took care of it.  When I put the pool back the next season, I sprinkled the lime on the ground and put down sheets of grass and weed barrier (which also prevents grass from growing through the pool.) I didn't have the odor problem when I took it down the next time, but I also don't know what other conditions were different. It may be just an intermittent problem. Out of six seasons, I only had the odor problem one time. At any rate, the lime worked wonders when it did happen.

  3. did you drain it on the ground ,if so ,next time pipe it away with a hose to a storm drain or an area away from the house,it's probably a mold  condition from moisture and heat,it will go away after the water drains off.............tom
