Question:

How do I get rid of these popups?

Okay, this started a couple of days ago. Every time I'd start to browse the web, I'd get like eight million popups. One of them is a scan from something called Microsoft Antivirus asking me to buy it. Then there's the Registry Defender ad that keeps popping up. Some others include the-deal-site.com, airrivals.net, and the about:blank page.

So far I've run Spyware Doctor, Super AntiSpyware, and the ESET online scanner. Anyone else have any suggestions? One one of the pages I researched, someone mentioned cleaning the computer's registry, but I don't really know how to do that.

Thanks so much. I appreciate any help! :D

  1. stop going to p**n sites and getting viruses

  2. It sounds like you have a SMITFRAUD VIRUS, which gives false warnings of infections - as well as messages in the SYSTRAY (down by the clock).  This virus requires a special program and specific steps to remove.  Below is information from Bleeping Computer.

    HTH!

    ======================================...

Smitfraud / Generic Zlob / Quicknavigate / Virtual Maid REMOVAL

    From www.BleepingComputer.com

    What this program does:

SmitFraud has become a term to mean an infection where fake security alerts appear in your taskbar stating that you are infected. These alerts tend to be accompanied by a rogue anti-spyware program installed on your computer without your consent. Clicking on one of these fake security alerts will either bring you to a home page where you can purchase other fraudulent software or will install automatically, without your permission, one of these software.

Tools Needed for this fix: SmitFraudFix.zip which is available for download at:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/sm...

  3. http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/?r...

  4. registry cleaner is a $30 software which claims to clean registry.

    i use lavasoft registry cleaner.

check http://www.lavasoft.com and browse through its registry cleaner package. its very good.

i also use spyware doctor. make sure your firewall and antivirus has real-time protection enabled.

  5. Put up a block up blocker.

  6. Their abit tough to get ride of because sometimes anti-spyware cant recognise the rogues...quick way out is do a system restore back to an earlier date.

Scan with Malwarebytes as well it might sort it.

  7. try downloading firefox and using that as your browser instead - it has an automatic pop up blocker.

  8. Your machine is infected. Pop-ups are mostly caused by adware, spyware, and other malicious and unwanted software and using pop-up blocker won't help an infected PC. No single anti-spyware application is perfect so I recommend using at least 2 different programs. Spybot Search & Destroy is one of the best. I also recommend SUPERAntiSpyware. Other free anti-spyware programs would be Adaware, AVG Anti-spyware (formally Ewido), A-squared, Spyware Terminator and SpywareBlaster.

Running these programs in Safe Mode (tap F8 as the computer boots up and choose to boot to safe mode) can be more effective.

If you do not have an updated anti-virus program always running, you need to get one. Install only one, but you can get AVG, Avast! or AntiVir for free.

I strongly recommend using FireFox, it's a far better and safer alternative to Internet Explorer. If you add-on McAfee SiteAdvisor, it will warn you of potentially harmful sites. I also recommend CCleaner which is a free system optimization and privacy tool.

  9. usually if you have norton or google toolbar it will get them away but i get the same prob arghhhhh some1 just tried to get in my house and its about 11:00 pm

  10. well try running as many virus scanners as u can and just let it run for as long as u can

  11. GET AVG ANTIVIRUS @ DOWNLOAD.COM...  TRUST ME IT'S THE BEST AND IT'S FREE.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND IT FIXED EVERYTHING!!!!

  12. You have been hit pretty hard by adware it seems.

I like windows defender for getting rid of (and preventing) that type of malware.  Go to microsoft.com and do a search for windows defender download.

Also if you want to try messing with the registry, the easiest (and least dangerous) way is to use msconfig.

go to start, click on run, then in the dialog box type in msconfig.

The things to try in msconfig are

    1) System Restore.  Restore your settings to a time before the problem occured.  This is often compromized too, so it may not work.

    2) Disable everything that starts up, and then run windows defender, or delete any spyware related files that you can find.

  13. Your computer is infected with rogue anti spyware programs. Try running SmitFraudFix in safe mode.
