How do I get rid of this Slug infestation?

Question

each time it rains I get slugs coming out of the overflow in my kitchen sink, they slug all over the draining board and down the side of the unit on to the kitchen floor. I have even found them in my sons bedroom which they seem to be drawn to for some reason! they only appear after a rainy day and usually creep out during the night, though they have been known to poke their ugly little heads out whilst I am washing the dishes! how can I get rid of them for good? I don't even know how they've got in there.
