Question:

How do I get rid of this eye pain?

While getting rid of a grey eyelash, the tip of the tweezers apparently scratched the white of my eye, and now I've got never-ending eye pain. Ibuprofen and some Visine drops have helped a little, but the pain's still there and I get flare-ups where I can't even have my eyes open. Cold, compressed cloths work for a while, and then comes another flair-up. During the worst of my flair-ups, my body goes ragdoll limp and it's difficult to even stand. How long should I suffer through this?

  1. You should not be suffering.  Please, please, please go see an eye doctor.  They can give you drops that have pain-numbing medicine in it.  It's like Vicodin for your eyes.  This truely could be a very serious condition.  Please get it checked out

  2. Visine is EXTREMELY dangerous to a compromised cornea.

You absolutely MUST make an emergency appointment with an ophthalmologist or go to the ER.

You've got unfortunate ERs, I'm afraid. I've had luck twice thus far, I'm hoping to not be put into the position of testing it again in this city. :P

  3. I greatly disagree with that last post.  ER's rarely treat eye conditions accurately.  Visine is a no no though.  You can try an Artificial tear that is preservative free.  You should see an ophthalmologist though.  If it scratched the "white" of your eye, it will probably clear up on its own after about 4 days, but if it is on your cornea " clear stuff over the colored part of your eye"..it my not heal on its own, in addition to the fact that it may cause permanent scarring even if it does heal.  You could also develop an infection.

  4. Don't ever use tweezers to take an eyelash out!  You may have scratched your cornea,  You need to see an Ophthalmologist. Stop using Visine.  When you use Visine it can cause rebound inflammation.  That is why it flares up again.
