  1. I have the same pool and I know exactly what you are talking about. The vac they give you does not trap fine sand particles and is worthless. I went out and got a vac made for a pond. I use this one www.muckvac.com. It works great because all of the fine sand particles go out into the yard and not back into the filter. The only downside is that you have to replace the water that you suck out. I use it every other week and the pool looks great. Good luck!

  2. Well I had a prob with iron in our well water when we opened our pool, and what I did caught the iron and i am thinkin would catch this sand of yours. I used a sock on the discharge from the filter (inside the pool of course), while the filter is running, to catch wut was going thru my filter. No matter how many times I cleaned my filter out I still watched the iron collect on this sock. Hope this works for as I know it is very aggravating when you just want a clean pool. ;)

  3. Shell has a good suggestion if you have a discharge hose going back into the pool.  With too much pressure it may shoot off.  You should clean your filter before backwashing.  If it is a sand filter - backwash, if it is a cartridge filter, hose it down and then vacuum.  You'll want to backwash after vacuuming too.

  4. Sand should not get through your filters so check them. If you have a pool sweep it should eventually get most of it out and make sure the bag on it is fine enough to not let the sand through it.
