Question:

How do I get sand to dry indoors?

I'm putting sand between the boards of a floor for sound deadening purposes, but the sand I got is wet. I'm obviously not going to cover the floor while the sand is still wet so what's the quickest way to dry it? I already have a fan running but I think it might only dry the top layer?

  1. Use a fan forced heater and keep turning the sand over to rush the drying, if your in a real hurry get some dry sand and mix it in this will also increase the drying time.

  2. Volumns like this need to be kiln dried. The problem there is that it is twice as costly. What is the weather like where you are, can you rely on warm sunshine? If you can, that is where the sand should be. I remember once we did this kind of thing under a stage floor, we put the sand in, and it was not really dry, it wasn't dripping either, it didn't seem to matter because the sand did not touch the floor joists, and it seems to have been OK. The type of sand used was course sharp sand, not building sand....Doesn't really help, does it?
