Question:

How do I get sound from my home stereo to my PC?

I've connected my xbox360 to my video 1 input on my stereo (2 analog RCAs) and the sound goes through the home theater speakers. That's all good. But what I want to do is use the 2 RCA outputs on the stereo for the Video 1 output and run 'em to my PC via Line In. I've tried it but nothing is being picked up...

Any help would be greatly appreciated :D P.S. running Windows Vista Premium on a HP desktop. 1 sound card, although i can only use the front mic jack for a regular microphone/headphones since the RCA cords are only so long.

  1. Your trying to send the sound into the computer..? Why? Regardless of why,  I'm not to familar with vista, but try checking your audio controls...there are seperate controls for the different components on your computer...one of the audio controls should be "Line in" make sure its not muted or turned down....don't plug into the headphone jack of your computer...that is a output...you can buy a cable from radio shack that has rca on one end and the stereo mini plug at the other end.

If your just plugging into the computer and expect to hear something as soon as you plug up, I don't think it works that way...I would think you have to run a program that is equipt to recieve sound.

  2. try running the sound out your headphone jack of your stereo to your line in on your pc. then make sure your line in on your pc  is not mutted.
