How do I get started for a 5k at the Flying Pig in Cincinnati?

Hi -

So I'm not asking for training tips, although they are welcome, I am asking about info on the actual race. I have been to the website and honestly, I cannot just find the straight forward answers I need. It looks to me like there are different 5k's at the Pig, is that right? If so, what are the differences? What's this Pump n Run race? How much is registration? How early do you register? Anything info is good info!

I am completely in the dark when it comes to this. I know a few people who have run the full marathon, but I have never talked to them about it. I am not a runner by any means and so I am starting my training now for 2009. That is why this question is coming so early.

  1. There are several 5Ks for the Pig. The Pump n Run is a running and weightlifting race. It is chip timed. The Hope and Possibilities is a team event pairing runners with differently abled people both for the race and during training. It is not chip timed. There are 2 regular Fleet Feet 5Ks: one is chip timed and the other is not.

The registration fee is not listed on the website yet. You can usually register (with a late charge) all the way up to a few hours before the race. I cannot remember what the fee was last year, because I enter so many races. I typically spend between 25-100 dollars per race for entry. Registration starts weeks before the race. Keep checking the website.

The best place in Cincinnati for race information is at Bob Roncker's Running Spot in O'Bryonville. They also have fun training programs for all varieties of runners and walkers.
