  1. I don't know about the minis (I guess paizo.com has whatever you want), but the next step would be to find a group.  Your Favorite Local Game Store (FLGS) would be a good place to start.

  2. You might want to attend a local gaming convention (con for short). Hanging out with a few hundred gamers for the weekend is cool.

Maybe go to GenCon or Origins, and hang out with many thousands of gamers.

  3. You find the last kid picked for dodgeball. Undoubtedly the kid will not only own ALL of the manuals.. but will have memorized the pagination for every chart and table in the game. In reality.. this information is redundant because the kid will have all of the charts and tables memorized anyways. Regardless.. this kid will also have in his collection.. every miniature released to the public.. in addition to the ones from Gary Gygax's personal collection. . .

  4. So you have read the Players Handbook (PHB) awesome, you’ve done the groundwork. The PHB is the most important of the core rulebooks. Now you must find or create a group.

As you may or maynot know, to play the game D&D you need a "Dungeon Master" (DM) he is the person who runs the game, tells the story, describes what the "Player Characters" (PC) see, hear, smell, taste, etc. He also acts as the referee.

So you can see you'll need at least 2 dedicated people to play the game, luckily you already have one...you!

Some people like to learn the game and act only as PC's. They then find a group through friends, local game, comic or hobby shops, classifieds and the Internet, etc.

I have always found that a group of friends, who are interested in playing, to be the best and easiest way to go. We decide who will be DM, and then buy the core rulebooks together. You have already read the PHB so you can help the others through the process of creating a Character. If you haven’t created a character yet the first couple can be a bit challenging, but a great and fun learning experience. Who ever acts, as DM should read the Dungeon Master Guide, and the Monster Manual on his or her own.

Since you are new to the game it is easy to become overwhelmed when confronted by the core rulebooks and the crazy concept of a game that takes place in you imagination, stay calm and let it sink in.

If you decide to create your own group of friends I strongly recommend buying an adventure, “ The Keep on the Shadowfell.” This is great for new players, and old for that matter. Very nicely detailed and helpful to get things going.

About miniatures, this is another fun hobby associated with D&D I won’t get too involved discussing this, but I will say there are a TON of miniatures out there. The D&D minis from WoTC are good and pre painted, ready to use, unfortunately, unless the store you buy from sells them individually you won’t know what you are getting because they are a random selection in the box. There are stores, especially online that do sell individual figs from these packs though so look around. The other way to go is, like I said, a hobby unto itself. You can purchase unpainted figs and modify them and paint them to get exactly what you have imagined.

This is a lot of info… hope it helps more that confuses.

  5. To find a group, a good place to start would be your local gaming/comics stores. Many of those have bulletin boards for groups currently recruiting players. Another possibility is online groups like DnDContact in Yahoo groups.

For minis, again your first bet is the gaming store - most have a fair to good selection so look to see if any in stock fit your PC (tho certainly an exact match is hardly required). If none of their supply fits your concept, check the manufacturer's website to see if they have one that's just right.

  6. Congratulations! the players handbook is probably the most important book of the three. You questions where basiclly where to go? what to do? and how do you get minis?

1 Where to go? Your local hobby shop/comic shop is the best place to start. A good website is

    http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=rpg...

This is a good beggining place. It is the community arm of Wizards of the Coast, the makers of D&D. It can give you pointers on the campaigns that are running, updates on material, etc... It also hosts the RPGA the gaming network for most of the campaigns. Also try the Yahoo groups. I am sure MSN and other sites have communities but I am with weveral local play groups that I met and coordinate with through Yahoo groups.

2 Where do you get the minis you want? If you are asking about getting minis in general or a particular mini, once again your local gaming/hobby/comic shop is the first option. The prepackaged WoTC minis are random sets. You never know what you will get out of a box. The unpainted, die cast minis give you a bit more choice. They come in smaller sets but the clear packaging lets you pick what you are looking for. There are also online sources for both types. a good place to start is:

    http://www.miniaturemarket.com/

    and

    http://www.rpgnow.com/

    Hope any of this helps!
