  1. well... first off dont be like me

this year i wanted to try it since i was sick of skiing

i started off on the bunny slope

then my brother thought we were ready for the big hill

    - so i agreed and we went down. i fell a bunch of times.. when i was about 2 ft from the bottom of the hill i fell backwards and tried to catch my self.. lets just say i wasnt the best idea.. i broke my wrist :p

    so i would recommed this

    - wear a helmet

    - go to the resort and ask about boarding lessons.. they will help

    - if you dont want lessons.. just stay on the bunny slope and NEVER try to catch your self when you fall

    * good luck !

  2. snowboarding is actually relitively expencive to start out... you definitly want to take lessons at a resort.  I took lessons and after 3 days i was able to do most of the easy and intermediate runs without falling.  Its been over two years now and i still take lessons when i go to colorado to learn new tricks and refine my skill. you can also learn from a friend but unless theyre a really good teacher it will be harder to grasp

the smaller the mountain usually the cheaper the cost (colorado is really expencive where as wisconsin is not)

expences: (check the resort before going to get the actual prices. most places will have a website)

board rental: $30-70 (some places may also make you make a credit card deposit on the board as well)

    lift ticket $15-70

    helmit rental: usually $10

i hope you can afford it, it really is fun once you stop falling!

  3. Expense***

You can buy half priced lift tickets or if its your B day most resorts will let you in for free. But yes, they do run pretty pricy and if you are just starting out I would ABSOLUTELY DO THIS:

Since you will not make it down the bunny slopes all but 2-3 times, which is fairly short anyways, I would just go with some Beg. friends away from the main lift line and walk up. If someone asks you what you are doing say you lost your lift tcket somewhere and they will not let you back on the lift w/out it. I always thought that I should have done that when I was first starting out. It could have saved me 100s plus would have given me some exercise. Its a good thing buny slopes are not to steep b/c its a pain in the A to walk up some of those hills w boots on.

    LEARNING**

    GOOFY OR REGULAR*

To learn you will find out if u are goofy or regular. Goofy is R foot forward and Reg is considered L foot forward. Get someone to push u and find out what foot goes first. that is what you are. When you start I would suggest getting a thick pair of gloves and maybe some Xtra butt padding because you will be using both a lot.

    LIFT(if you pay)*

Your front foot will be in the binding whether u are goofy or regular footed. the loose foot will be pressed on the stomp pad (should be located in between both bindings closest to the back binding. Your back foot should be here while pushing up against the back binding for support. If you fall don't worry everyone does sometime even after a few yrs. It happens just crawl out of the way the best u can but if you think you can manage just go straight down the little enbankment straight and strive to get as far away from the lift as possible or else you will cause the pile up or the stopped lift (which nobody likes when they sit on a chairlift 20-40ft from the ground with snowblowers blowing on them).

    HEEL OR TOE FIRST*

Start out on either Heel or toe side first and master sliding down that first then when you feel kind of comfy hop around and slide down the bunny slope the opposite way like.

EX. when i say heel you will be looking down the hill using your heel edge to go straight down (when u get better please do not do this on Black diamonds becasuse you shave away the top layer of snow and everything but ice not allowing other people going fast to manuever L or R).

    PENDULUM*

So then when you master both heel and toe sliding you will then arch out and do what I call the pendulum. Which is when you stay on heel or toe (whichever u choose) and go down the hill not straight down but in a pendulum fashion.

    PENDULUM SWITCH*

When u get better you will learn how to cross from pendulum heel to pendulum toe or pendulum toe to pendulum heel. That is a big deal right there.

This will conclude about a weeks worth of lessons in a  couple paragraphs good luck email me for any further questions : sweetfromcali@yahoo

  4. it isnt too expensive.  just go to a ski resort website and it will probably tell you the price.  the lessons are very good (i learned really quickly).  it is really fun. good luck

  5. At first I would rent all the nessecary equipment then borrow the clothes. That's not too expensive. Then get at least a weeks worth of lessons and youll be started.
