I cut some trees down and stumps are left. I don't want to pay for a stump grinder. Looking for home remedies.

  1. You'd be way better off paying for a  stumpgrinder (make them give you a deal you can't refuse!)

Even if you use chemicals to 'finish it off', you'll be seeing those stumps for the next 3-5 years (depending on size).  Can you say "eyesore"?

To each his own, I guess.

  2. Take a chainsaw and cut them to ground level. After that buy some "stump out" at the home improvement or hardware store. By drilling holes and following the instructions on the can the stumps will deteriorate a bit quicker than normal. Or you can drill deep holes in the stumps and pour in used motor oil. Let that soak in then burn them out. They'll burn below ground level.

  3. Get a drill and drill 1/2 holes deeply in the stumps and then get you some ice cream salt and pour into holes.  The salt will be absorbed into the roots and rot.  Adding a little water every now and then helps also
