I need a round trip ticket from Sacramento, California to Columbus, Ohio.

Instead of Sacramento being the departing location, it can also be San Francisco

If you know about discount/promotion codes, that would help too.

$231 r/t total with 7+ day advance purchase, OAK-CMH via HOU each way, http://www.continental.com  I searched from SMF, RNO, SFO, SJC, and OAK and next-cheapest is $251 from SFO.  Cheapest from SMF is $299 but with 21 day advance purchase (Continental and Northwest cheapest).  These fares seem to be available weekends as well as weekdays.

Right now, $231 showing available departing 20th, 23rd, 26th, 27th August, staying 6-8 nights.  Run the travel dates you settle on through http://www.bookingbuddy.com to see if additional discounting is available for this itinerary--but $231 is very good.
