How do I get the hood open on my 96 explorer, the hood release is not working

  1. Just a reminder that after you get the hood open to spray the latch with lithium grease. It's available at any parts store.




  2. Well to start off with you probaly have either a busted latch to where the lever has came seperated from the cable, your best bet is to lift the latch up and grab the cable with a pair of vise grips and pull and it should open up.

    If your latch hasnt busted then you probaly have a weak spring at the release under the hood. Well that one is a little bit more trickier. You will have to find a spot either at the grill or between the hood and the grill and pop the latch open somehow and get it open.

    Either way once it is open you have to have the cable replaced or you will keep having problems.

  3. get down on the ground, reach up with a long screwdriver and pop the hood.

  4. Take the grille off and manually open it.

  5. Try 2 people. I have to pull the lever while someone else pulls the hood up. (little broken)
