  1. Hydrangea are bushes, not trees. You can prune to your heart's content, but these are not going to grow tall like a small tree. Be content that the bushes are doing well. Goldwing

  2. they wont become a tree or at least tall like one. you can cut bottom branches though making it look a bit more like a tree. prune before leaves appear and make sure you prune it in a nice shape so it looks like a tree.

if you have seen a hydranea tree maybe you saw a crape myrtle becuase these do look a bit like hydraneas. crape myrtles are sub tropical trees growing along the east coast in latitudes below 40.5 degrees. many can be found in the carolinas as well as virginia beach, new jersey, deleware, and maryland. also can be grown anywhere on the east coast south of conneticut excluding the conneticut coast line.

    good luck

  3. go here...

you'll see paniculatas that have been pruned into trees.... this white type is the only one that will do this for you.... look then under pruning on that site, for info on when and how to do  your pruning....

  4. answer #1 is right.  prune after blooming by thinning.  select 3 or 4 stems for the most upright and central position.  cut back to the ground all other  stems  next winter select the most tree-like of the 3-4, and prune to ground the rest
