How do I get the phone# of the American Kennel Club?

I bought a pup and the breeder still has not given me papers and I was told I could call the AKC and give them the breeders name and my pups date of birth and find out if she is registered with them or not. Any other Ideas on how I can find out if my pup is registered let me know.
