Question:

How do I get the remove red dye which has bled onto other clothes?

I used Rit Color Remover and that was a complete disaster - it actually took the color out of the blue clothes and left all the red in. Completely worthless and expensive effort. I've had other instances of red color bleed and bleach has never worked for me. I do not ever dry the damaged clothes before trying to get the red out. This last batch was washed several times as well as using color remover.

My husband said to just write it all off and that's probably good advice.

Please don't answer to tell me to use bleach or Rit anything.

Thanks!

  1. Hi Noel,

I have been there done that, and have ruined lots of clothes in the past. Now I keep in the laundry cupboard a product called  Dylon Colour Run Remover - Coloursafe. It's a life saver when your coloured clothes turn pink because of red colouring.

If your clothes are coloured it's important you only use the "Coloursafe" Dylon Colour Run Remover and try to treat it as soon as possible.

If your clothes are white and turn pink because of red colouring then you can use Dylon Colour Run Remover - Whites

The product really works, but don't be temped to use the Dylon Colour Run Remover - (Whites) on your coloured clothes like I did one time. It will do the same thing as Rit Colour Remover did to your clothes.

Your husband might be right, it could be to late to save your clothes this time. But it's a good idea to have both Dylon Colour Run Remover for Whites and Coloured clothes in you laundry cupboard for future accidents.

I can buy this brand where I live. If you can't get the same brand where you are there is sure to be another brand that does the same thing.

  2. Umm... So you put them in boiling water one by one and let them stay in for like 5 min. and then take them out and ta-da! No more red!!!

  3. You're never going to be able to enjoy those clothes again, even if you find a way to remedy the problem.

If you don't want to save them to wear while painting, gardening, or cleaning around bleach splatters ... I say cut them up for cleaning or car washing rags.

I'm an extremely frugal person.  But, there comes a time when it's more important to know when to quit wasting your time.
