How do I get the smell of cat urine out of my kitchen floor?

I was gone for a week, and a friend took care of my cat. Now, my apartment reeks of urine. It gets a little better every evening when I come home and clean up the litter box, and open the windows, but I think that urine must have spilled around the litter box and absorbed into the floor around the box. My cat pees behind her, so it often leaks between the top and bottom of her enclosed litter box. I usually keep a paper towel in there to block it, and throw it away every day. How do I get the smell out of the floor? I've tried every cleaner I can think that might help.

  1. White vinegar works really well.  If you put it in a spray bottle, it's a bit easier to manage then just pouring it out.  You can actually see the vinegar working as it foams when it hits the urine.  I let it set for a bit, and then rub it out with a rag.  I do that a few times to really clean it up.  I usually spray some Febreze on the spot afterward to avoid having the room smell like vinegar as well.  Good luck!

  2. Hi. There's a long-winded (but thorough) method for getting the smell of urine out of carpets here: http://www.gomestic.com/Pets/Method-for-...

If yours is a wooden, tiled or laminate floor (or something similarly hard), it probably won't be ideal. However it does recommend the use of tea tree oil which as well as smelling great has natural antibacterial and anti-fungal properties which I'm sure will definitely come in handy.

  3. Have you tried Urine Gone? It is a great product specifically designed for the cleanup or pet urine. It not only cleans the mess, but also totally eliminates the smell. You can pick this up at major retail stores such as Walmart or Target.

  4. good old bleach should do the trick

mop the whole surface in hot 3parts hot water and 1 part bleach then let it dry do this one last time. then try pouring some rose water on the floor and let it dry.

it should smell of roses once youve finished and the rose water will get rid of the bleached smell.

if your sensitive to bleach then instead use jeffs.

    good luck

  5. use White vinegar pure.  pore it on the are that need cleaning and let it sit then clean it up.  Also I know my local petco sells this stuff called skunk smell remover it really works you can also look for it on line.  Good luck
