She has Alzheimer's and is incontinent. I soak them in water with a little bit of bleach, but I hate to do that, and even after I put them through the washing machine they still smell.

  1. I used to work at a nursing home and the best thing for that is honestly the adult pull- ups. They have the cheaper brand at walmart.

That will save you from doing tons of laundry because it will not get her pants messed when she has an accident.

Also what might help is to get her on a toiletting schedule. Have her go when she gets up, after each meal and before bed, and of course when ever else she has to go. But making sure she at least goes at those certain times will help with the accidents.

    Good Luck!

  2. Use 1/4 cup of ammonia in the wash along with your regular detergent. You can get lemon scented if you like. Let the water fill and then put the undies in and wash as usual. If you want you can add her pants and/or bedding also if she has urine on them too.

It really works, you wouldn't think it would, but it worked when we took care of my mother-in-law.

Take care and hang in there I know it's hard, but you won't regret helping someone who can't care for them-self.

  3. really i feel if they are that bad just buy new ones!  it may cost a bit but don't buy the expensive stuff!

  4. Soak them in ammonia (about 1/2 Cup to a gallon of warm water) for a couple of hours, then wash as usual.  You could also add the ammonia to the washer but the ammonia can be hard on some fabrics and cause "faster wear" on the item of clothing.

  5. Vinegar, I used it when I forgot my towels in the washing machine and they smelled musty. I thought I would have to get all new towels but it worked wonders. Good luck.

  6. although it's extremely wasteful, she needs to be wearing Depends, disposable underware

  7. buy disposable ones like depends!

  8. Try soaking it in washing up power

    =]

  9. Your answer is to buy the disposable ones.  You would find it much pleasanter.  I am so sorry that you are having to do this and I admire your kindness.  I hope that there are others who help you.  God bless you.

  10. I would go to a pet store and get an enzyme cleaner used to clean up pet messes. Spray it on before you wash and let them sit a bit.

  11. Depends or Poise are her best bet. They are kinda expensive though
