I am getting my bachelors in education and have a two year background in nursing. I am certified in CPR and first aid and while I am at college (from 18yrs to 22) I plan to be a nanny. How do I get the word out?

I live in a small farm town but am communting to a large city campus about 40 minutes away, there is also another large city about 30 minutes in the opposite direction. I would like to start in September.

Any idea on how to get the word out that I am looking for a job? I have previous experience by word of mouth but most are small paying family friends.I know there are websites but which ones are very good, safe and reliable? Have any parents found nannies off of any sites? What other ways should I try? Any other tips from people who have been in the same position?

  1. You could put a small, cheap ad in the local papers of the places you're trying to get business for.

  2. Craigslist.org

    Sittercity.com

  3. I am not sure where you live but in the UK most parents who want a nanny go through an agency.  Then they know the nanny is safe as the agency will do police checks, etc.  Do an internet search and see if there are any agencies in the city you are moving to.  If there are give them a call and they will tell you what information you need to provide them with.  Usually the parents will be charged for using the agency, not you so you won't lose any money at all.  Also agencies can be good as they will try to match you up with a family which would suit you and your experience, interests.  For example if you love playing tennis they may find you tennis loving family  Good luck.
