How do I get this codec?

I downloaded a movie off the internet but all i can do is hear it, i cant see the movie and it says i don't have the codec required, what do i do , how do i fix it. i desperately need your help!!!!

for the divx codec, go to http://www.divx.com/

that is usually the codec that people don't have when they can't play a video.

I agree with Tommy, get VLC Media Player from here and you won't have to mess around with codecs.

Download VLC player, ot can play any kind of videos
