I've been homeschooled since the 2nd grade and Im so worried about my first day of highschool. (if your going to answer this question, plz note this is not for you to tell me what you think of homeschooling and bash it.) How do I just get thru it? I certainly dont want to blend it (I know Im sort of pretty and I want to gain my lost self-eestem) But I dont want to stand out too much. I dont know, just how to get thru it? how do I go from homeschooled to public school? If anyone can help me I'd be very thankful.

  1. Same here!  I don't really want to be the most popular, but I don't want to be a "geek" either.  I think that I am going to just trust that the Lord will provide the right group of friends for me and that He has a plan for my life (Jeremiah 29:11).  So I would just take it one step at a time!  Good luck, and let me know how it goes!

  2. just be urself

and also sports is really important for highschool

  3. Well, Here in New York City you get to apply to High Schools you want (sort of like college). Most of the time kids get chosen to a High School not in their neighborhood (most of the kids In these school are from a different neighborhood as well).

Well I was one of these kids. I had to go to a school in Manhattan and I lived in center Queens (another borough of the city) There are kids in my school from all different boroughs and even states! (its a vocational school) I was really nervous the first day of school especially since middle school wasn't so great because I never socialized. I just started talking to people and we all were talking about were we are from. I just went with it and was myself and never really cared what people thought of me. Just keep an open mind and I know this must be nerve raking but It will -probably come in naturally to you. Good luck and remember don't think about it. High School is hard weather you've been home-schooled or not.

    P.S. AVOID DRAMA!

  4. Do you have any friends that go to that high school? If so, then buddy up with them and they can introduce you to their friends, and you'll adjust in no time, I'm sure. I went to public school through 4th grade, and have homeschooled ever since, but even the few years I was in public school taught me that knowing people is the best way to get used to new things

  5. The first day is always the easiest because everyone else is nervous too! Plus, there's a lot going on to distract everyone since it's the first day of the new year. Just try to talk to a few people or one person in each class. Also, take the opportunity to look around and see who you want to possibly hang out with and stuff. Just get up and do it like you would any other day being home schooled. You may have been home schooled, but really you're just like every one else. And most of the guys will be interested to see a pretty new face most likely! Oh, and try to find some girls or people to eat lunch with as you don't want to eat alone all year :) It will probably be lots of fun on your first day!

  6. Even for those who have gone through mainstream schooling all their lives, adjusting to high school is difficult.  Being homeschooled, however, can make adjusting both easier (In terms of academics, perhaps you are advanced) and harder (Because you've been studying in a one-on-one or at-your-own-pace environment.).  The best advice is to let yourself be noticed (Because there are always SOME people who will want to get to know you.) and simply be pleasant.

And if word gets around that you were homeschooled, and people start bashing you...ignore them.  If they have their own misconceptions, let them be.  It's not for you to change their opinions.

As to getting through your first day, just go through your books in advance, know school policy, and check out what clubs you want to sign up for.  And as for your self-esteem...well...self-esteem usually plummets in the teen years.  Hang in there and keep telling yourself you're pretty!  We ALL have our ugly days.
