Travelling to Italy in a couple of months and want to get to San Fele from Naples or Sorrento... is it possible without a car or should I rent a car (I've heard the drive is treacherous in the mountains?) No train station in San Fele, bus from closest/easiest train station (Melfi? Potenza?) I'm trying to visit the small town where my great grandparents were born and am having challenges in locating transportation information. Thanks for your information. Grazie!

  1. To go to San Fele (PZ) you have several alternatives using train and busses. If you do not plan to visit Basilicata for some days I believe this is the easiest way:

    - Direct Bus from Naples everyday except on Sundays leaving from Napoli Piazza Garibaldi on 14.30 arriving in San Fele at 18.00. (for booking and infos: info@autolineeliscio.it)

  2. I found a trip account of San Fele that says to take a train to Melfi and you will find a bus that goes right into town. No doubt you can connect to a Melfi train from Naples. Check out the site.

It looks like a great place to go. The site lists family name and genealogy on the top of the page.
