Question:

How do I get used to alcohol so I can drink more?

I am a big guy. 23 years old. 5' 7" and 235 pounds. I was never a heavy drinker, but was able to drink a decent amount right after high school. About a year ago, for some reason, I just cannot seem to drink alcohol much anymore. After one beer, I feel like I cannot take the taste and feel as if I would maybe throw up if I was to drink another one. A few years ago, I was able to go a few beers, a shot or two of liquor, another beer or so, another shot, then end it there. But I cannot get close anymore, and I don't really have fun anymore at my buddy's drinking parties. I usually fall asleep early because I don't drink much. I would like to know if there are ways to get over this, maybe if I drink two to three beers a night, maybe my body can get used to it? Like I said, it is kinda weird because I am a big guy, but unable to drink much. Thanks for any help.

  1. I don't think it's anything you need to do to be able to drink more.  your body changes all the time as you get older and the things you eat or drink may be affected.  your body will tell you what and what not to eat.  it just a matter of adjusting to foods and beverages that disagree with you.

  2. If you feel like you're left out, then find a drink you can handle. Maybe a glass of wine is your ticket, gin and tonic or a scotch and soda. Lots of times, alcoholic drinks are an acquired taste. I'm not a huge beer drinker myself but there are some micros that I think aren't bad. MacTarnihan's and Red Hook aren't as bitter or hop tasting as other beers. You might try one of these, just keep it to reasonable amount.

  3. you could try eating something with a lot of starch a couple hours before such as pasta is a good one. Try to incorporate food when drinking beer like nuts or pretzels your body will absorb the alcohol slower thus making your buzz develop a little slower.

If none of these work I have heard of people that become allergic to alcohol and even worse some times people in the early stages of diabetes can feel the way you described but lets hope its not that if none of these things don't work then

and I hate to say it build your tolerance up by having 2 beers a night and build it up gradually

  4. When i started drinking beer i hated it and moved on to other drinks but realised that they tasted even worse so i went back to beer and the more i drank it the more i liked it even if i did feel a little sick, but thats just what ya gotta do man, helped me and now i love beer
