I have the firewire and cords and stuff, is it possible to import the videos directly onto Sony Vegas so I can edit the clips?

And what other editing software can I import the clips in?

  1. Yes.  That is the reason firewire was invented and is now the standard.  You only need your camcorder, the tapes you with to capture, the firewire cord, and your computer with Sony Vegas.  Nothing else - it is that simple.

Sony Vegas is for PCs, so you ca also use Windows Movie Maker (free in every copy of Windows), Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, Quicktime, and a myriad of other video editing programs.

  2. i have sony vegas and do this every single day.

open up the program and go to file capture video. it will ask you dv or hdvi. i choose dv because  i don't have a hd camcorder. Make sure your tape is where you want to start capturing your computer and conncet the camcorder to the firewire. then click the capture video button and let it do its thing. when you are to a point you want to stop click the stop button. then once its done drag the clips right into sony vegas.

if you want to find the clips in their raw format sony vegas usually puts them in my documents.
