  1. Buy a wireless router, Dlink, or Linksys,

Connect your new wireless router between your Virgin Broadband and your desktop.

Read the installation manual carefully and configure it yourself. That would be easy since you have the installation disk just follow on the instructions.

Enabled your Laptop's wireless LAN, that should would after you set up your wireless router. Just always keep in mind to secure your network so that no one near you can tap into your wireless network. Try not to broadcast your SSID and use WPA2 to have a secured network

  3. You can go to any computer store and get a router and hook it up to the cable, and get a wireless card for your laptop. Put it in and it should recognize each other. You can always call ur internet provider and they can help u and tell you exactly what u need. They sometimes come out and hook it up for you as well for free.

  4. You will need to purchase a router and install it in line with your cable internet service.  You will also need to make sure that your laptop has a wireless receiver in it to receive these wireless signals.

  5. People are recommending to go wireless.  I would only recommend going wireless if you need the ability to roam around the house.

You did not specify if you have a router or not.  In order to have multiple computers on the Internet, you will need a router, not a switch, but a router.

You will definitely need wireless if you have a device like an ipod, mp3 player, hand held palm, or a laptop that needs to roam, and all these devices needs to have access to the network.  If you just have a stationary laptop that is not going all over the house, I believe powerline is the better way to go.

Now, if you have a router already, you can just buy a powerline starter kit where you get 2 powerline adapters.  If you do not have a router, then you can actually buy a powerline router.

Here is what you can buy if you have no router: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as... and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

If you already have a router, you can buy this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

  6. You will need two things for you to have a home wireless network. The wired computer will have to have a wireless router and the laptop will have to have a compatible wireless PCI card.

There are many types of routers that you can choose from and some of them are much better than others. You want your router to at least have wireless-n because this band has a faster transfer speed and a better range. Most routers are a combination wireless-n, and b/g. This can be a good feature to have because anybody else that you let use your network can access it with any wireless band (each computer can have a different type of wireless card and still access your network).

Your laptop will have to have a wireless PCI card installed in it. Wireless-n receivers cost about $30 to $50 depending on what laptop you have. It is easy to install the card yourself if you decide to do it that way however you should check to see if your laptop came with a PCI card when you bought it. Most laptops (even basic packages) come with some type of internet card pre-installed.

  7. What you need is a wireless router.  First check with your broadband company because sometimes the modem they provide includes a wireless router.

If not, you can get a 802.11G router (the standard today) for about $40-60 at Walmart or most electronic stores/departments.

The router will attach by a network cable to the modem provided by Virgin. Once attached, you will need to use a network cable to attach your laptop to the router the first time you use it to set up the router. Once that is done, you will be able to work without that network cable.

Normally the router will walk you through a short setup routine in which you name your network and assign a security password.  After that you run the "Wireless Wizard" in the Control Panel of your laptop.  It will hask you to select the network you want to use (the one you just named) and to enter the password for it.  After that, it should remember the password in the future and not ask for it again.

  8. Get a wireless router, I like linksys  and connect to your home router using installation disk. Add your laptop to the network.

  9. First you are going to need a wireless rooter. Then you will have to set up the connection from the laptop, i carnt tell you how but i can tell you that there is an option to auto detect the signal from the rooter.
