Question:

How do I get wood stain out of a formica countertop?

Silly me! We are remodeling an old house on weekends and I left a can of wood stain on the formica countertop for a couple of weeks. I had spilled down the sides of the can so when I sat it down it was sitting in a ring of the stain. When I found it and moved the can there was an ugly dark circular stain on the countertop that would not wash off. I do not want to use an abrasive cleaner unless I have to, but everything I have used so far has not worked. I have used Mr. Clean, Murphy Wood Soap, mineral spirits, lemon oil and lemon juice. Does anyone have any other suggestion that might help. Should I stay away from an abrasive cleaner? I have been able to lift some stain so that it is not sticky and it is a little lighter but it is still there and noticable. Thank you!

  1. eviction notice

  2. Try WD-40!

  3. Try using lacquer thinner. Put a good amount on a rag and rub in a circular motion. It should take it off. If it looks a bit dull when you're done, spray it with wd-40 to recondition it. The only other thing I can think of is paint stripper but try the lacquer first.   Hope this helps.
