How do I give my poor little sick cat her antibiotic capsule?

I got one down her and now she won't let me near her. She isn't eating well. I don't think putting it in her food will help much. Is there another way?

  1. Here's a link to an excellent video that demonstrates the pill popper device.  Check w/your vet to see if they have a pill popper.  If not, check with Petco or Petsmart.

I swear by these pill poppers.  I've used them for years and think they're great.  Good  luck.

  2. The way I've found that works best for me is to get another person to help you.  Catch the kitty, and have the other person hold her down.  Gently pinch the sides of her mouth where her jaw opens and that will force open her mouth.  Drop the pill in, and once she's licked her nose that means she swallowed it.  She'll cry and struggle but you know you're doing this for her own good.

  3. get a bit of cheese put it in there, put it near her nose or leave it infront of her. works everytime for my cats. :)

  4. Do you feed her any wet food? When I have a capsule to get into my kitties I feed it to them this way: Wait until they are hungry; get a small teaspoonful of wet food in the dish. Then pinch the capsule open and squeeze the contents on the little mouthful of food. Mash it in to combine.

Once they eat that I give them the rest of their dinner.

Ask your vet if you could open the capsule and feed it like that but don't do it until the vet gives an OK.
