  1. Well i started when i was 18 by being an intern.  Alot of the companies now require you to be interning for college credit, but sometimes they'll slip it by calling it a "street team".  Thats the easy part.

basically once you get in w/ a station, BUST YOUR  BUTT until they hire you on.  Learn as much stuff as fast as you can and raise your hand for any shift or duty they pass out.   Especially these days it takes a long time to get into a DJ position,  but if you work really hard and get very good at what you do eventually you'll land a dinky weekend night shift,  then a dinky weekday night shift, and it will improve from there.

There's other ways to do it like bombarding them w/ demo tapes, showing up at all their remotes and get in really good w/ the current jocks, or making something of yourself outside of radio and then they will pursue you, IE journalist, club DJ, athelete, etc.

  2. There is a school that you can learn by doing.  That is the hardest road but you won't lose your lessons.

Local college that has a program in communications.

go to your local radio station and ask the oldest person you see there.  They would know.

Find an internet radio group or show in your neck of the woods, and beg to get down.

Really.  Good luck, my man.  I'm in internet radio too.

  3. My boyfriend used to work on radio and he got into it by firstly volenteering to work for a hospital radio just to get some experience then he used to write to every manager of all the local radio stations every day asking for work experience! It took a little while but eventually he got an unpaid job reading the news and then they liked him so much he ended up working on the breakfast show team!

You could also make demos of your self and send them in.

They will be looking for someone really outgoing and someone that is going to work really hard to get what they want so be very persistant!

    Good Luck!!!

  4. Depends where you are, but many would-be DJ have started out on local hospital internal broadcasting systems.

  5. look at the back questions on here, or search the resolved questions this has been ask many many times before

    regards x kitti x

  6. Try a degree in Mass Communications to start, it's offered at a lot of schools.

Next you'd want to get an internship at a radio station.

  7. Hi Ben,

My childhood dream was to work in radio. Although I knew it's not the best occupation and there's little to no job security, it was what I just absolutely knew I wanted to do.

I made friends with several DJs and radio folks at several stations. I made up a demo tape, and either mailed it or took it by the stations I was interested in.

Be persistent and keep trying - I applied at one station 6 times. I got hired on the sixth try..and went on to continue in

    radio, which I still enjoy.

The main difference now is you pretty much have to be computer-literate. When I first started, news was read live, we didn't use satellite services and we played vinyl records.

And this was not all that long ago, as I'm not a fossil - yet!

Some sites to look for radio jobs are:

    Best of luck to you!

  8. Go knocking on doors.  Visit all the radio stations in your area (the ones you listen too and even the ones you don't) ask if you can visit the station to learn how to do stuff because you're interested in becoming a DJ.  Tell them you'll work for free as long as you are allowed in the control room and the other areas so you can learn it all.

I did this for 3 months and got hired!!  I worked there for 5 years and loved it!!

  9. you have to be good at music.

    DUH

  10. local radio stations, or student radio stations.

  11. Ideally you should have started getting into it a while ago - I'm 15 and already have been doing it for several years now - I basically got into it by working for local community radio stations. Start low down and work your way up basically!

  12. A good way to get into radio is through voluntary work such as for hospital radio stations.
