Question:

How do I go about building a bench seat along my backyard fence?

I have wood from an old deck that was taken down and instead of throwing it out I've decided to recycle it and use it somewhere. The plan is to build a seating bench along the fence in my backyard but haven't come across any building plans online, just plans for benches on a deck and regular benches. Has anyone done anything similar to this and if so, how did you go about doing it. Thanks in advance!

  1. I would build a rectangle box using your reclaimed 2x lumber, 18" deep and X" wide with joists every 16" across attach this to your fence at 16.5" high using lag screws at the posts.  Drop down legs on the outer corners and every 4' as needed.  Then add your top boards for the seat.  Make sure you place the legs on a cement block or pad of some sort to keep it out of the dirt.  Enjoy you should be able to make this as long or short as you wish.
