  1. Figure out what you want your house to look like, talk to an architect have him draw up the plans, then get your permit(if you need)contact a contractor, figure out how much you can spend, present the plans to the contractor.

  2. Buy premade McMansion home plans from Barnes and Noble.  Pick the biggest one that you can afford, hand it over to a builder and stay out of the way.  The more involved you get, the more expensive it will be.  Either that or decide whether you want a double wide, make the phone call and voila, you have a new house in a matter of weeks.

  3. Wow, what a question, placing this one as "Interesting" as I can't wait to see the answers.

  4. It depends on weather or not you are looking to custom build or kit build. A kit home can be modified to your requirements to some degree and upgrading finishes are more feasible. You will need to get an architect if you are custom building. Some areas/states require one to contract an engineer as well. Do you own land or will you need to purchase the land? Does it have all of the necessary amenities? For design ideas I would begin by looking at model homes and take pictures of what you like. Start looking through magazines and make note or cut out pics of what catches your eye. Make of list of the things that are important to you. Also make a list of things that are necessary. Consider your budget. Will it allow for upgrades or standard finishes? I personally would start by talking to some one that builds kit homes. This will give you an idea of what to expect and you dont have to commit to them.
