I want to create a behavior chart for my son to put stickers on for when he's good. To encourage him to do good so how do I need to go about it, I have the poster board and markers and everything. I just don't know where to begin. The problems I have been having lately are screaming and hitting.

  1. You could make a monthly calendar.  Make sure the squares are big enough for multiple stickers.  Put in on a wall/fridge at his hi eye level.  Tell him that when he gets ___ stickers, he can get a _________.

Make sure he knows exactly what he needs to do for a sticker, things like:

    -Solving problems with his words.

    -Helping you around the house.

    -Doing as he is told.

Anything else you want to encourage

  2. i have done behavior charts for my boys when they were younger.

the easiest thing to do is put things on there that he does daily, things he could be doing or things you'd like him do..like picking up his toys, brushing his teeth, bringing his dishes to the kitchen when he finishes eating...etc. you can get happy and sad face stickers and use them accordingly. maybe you can also set some type of reward for a certain number of "good" stickers that he accumulates over the day, or the week...depending how patient he is. if his behavior is pretty rough right now you might want to give him a small reward daily just to encourage him to stick with the positive behavior. it doesn't  have to be candy or sweets like a lot of people tend to suggest...it could be having you read his favorite story, gettting to watch his favorite show...etc. you know your child and what he likes, i'm sure you'll figure out something great!! the best of luck to you!!

  3. Instead of a chart I suggest a jar, if you stick a sticker on a chart when he is good then he turns around and start hitting then it is hard to remove (if needed). If you get a jar decorate it then let him put something in it, fake flowers, plastic pirate coins, whatever sounds good. Then if he is bad you show him that you will be taking one out. Then at the end of the week if he has a certain amount he gets a little treat! Good luck!

  4. Well, you could have a square for each month

and at the end of the month if there is more then a full week with stickers, you could buy him/her something and if there are more then half of the full month of stickers you could buy him/her something a little better, and if the full month has stickers, you could buy him/her an even better thing, and then he/she will want to be getting stickers every month, so he/she will be being good =)

(And over the months you could less good stuff, until your just getting something like a little %1 toy, or candy, and then eventually, you can just stop giving him/her things for the stickers, and congratulate him/her =)
