  3. If you have a first name and a birth year and/or birth location of a couple of people you've narrowed this down to, I'd be happy to look them up on Ancestry for you.  

    Otherwise, I'm finding Cattleman folks in several states and so far the census records I've looked at say their race was white.  

    Kattleman appears to be a German surname:

    There is a public family tree uploaded to Ancestry which includes Henry Kattleman, born in 1825 in Hanover, Germany;  died before 6 Sep 1872 in Missouri...

    Ancestry shows no meaning or origin of either spelling of the name...
