  1. Go to the webpage for the state's Departement of Education and Liscensure information is  typically accessible.

  2. I am from Ohio, was laid off and now have taught in NC for 3 years.  I will tell you that is really easy to find a job in NC, the weather is beautiful and you are only a few hours from the mountains or the ocean.

For elementary education you will have no other requirements other than the Praxis II specific to NC.  But...if you want to got one of those great sign on bonuses that are offered all over this state you must take the test before you are hired.  Otherwise they will tell you that you were not a highly qualified teacher and won't give you the bonus at all or only part of it after you pass the test.

If you are wondering why NC is in such need of teachers, it is one of the few places in the country with a huge increase in population and the colleges mostly graduate with degrees in technology or science.  The state needs roughly 8,000 teachers a year and only graduates 3,000.  Schools are ran by a county-wide system and there is not a union.  Pay and benefits are controlled by the state.  Sign on bonuses and stipends paid at the end of the year are controlled by the county.  Otherwise you make the same anywhere you teach.

  3. Hi there! I'm a teacher in Ohio and it is sooooo hard to find a teaching job in Ohio! I've been teaching 3 years at a charter school and want to get into a public school district. Sadly, you need to know someone to get into a public school district up here or do a long term sub gig, so my next option is to move out of state (which is something I've been planning on doing for a few years). While it is better to have some experience, it's not really needed, esp. for states in the South and West who desperately need teachers. Plus, it's hard to get experience in Ohio when there's not a lot of jobs up here.  They love teachers from the north because the colleges up here have rigorous teacher programs.  Not slamming southern colleges at all, a principal in South Carolina told me this!

Anyway, you do need to take the Praxis II before getting your license. Once you've taken the Praxis, you will have HQT  (Highly Qualified Teacher) status, which you should put on your resume. The link at the bottom (the pdf one) shows reciprocity between the states and what you need to teach in another state. North Carolina and Oregon have reciprocity with Ohio, so they will accept your Ohio license, but in Oregon you need to get a "Transitional Teaching License" and I believe they give a link that explains that. I hope this helps! Good luck!! :D

  4. North Carolina: http://www.ncat.edu/~ncfellow/teaching_n...

    Oregon: http://licenseinfo.oregon.gov/index.cfm?...

Now, if you're just starting out, and you will already have your liscence in Ohio, then I'd teach three years there to get some experience. You will more than likely have to take a history class for whatever state you move to, as you'd be required to here in Arkansas.

  5. Yes, you will need to determine which praxis test the state requires. Then you need to apply for a teaching certificate in that state. This could cost around $200 so be prepare to have the money. You will probably have to have a background check also. You could go to the state's website to determine what qualifications you would need to apply. I would also talk to the guidance counselor at  you school and have them help you out with the application. Remember that once you have your teaching certificate, you must take approximately 6 college credits to renew it in 3 years.
