How do I go about getting a stage tech/ audio guy job on a cruise ship?

  1. As someone who has done this before on Royal Caribbean, here is some advice.

    If you want to be a Sound Tech, experience with mixing boards would be a necessity.  Most ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet, seem to be using either Crest or Yamaha Digital.

    Experience with mini-disc players, 24/24, mics (wired and wireless), cables and cabling, a knowledge of electronics and how things work, and some basic repair knowledge is good (because things are always breaking!)

    For stage techs, if you've done any stage work before it is helpful.  A knowledge of band set-ups, cables and cabling, is helpful.  Being physically fit would also be helpful.  It might make life easier as well.

    For both positions, be a team player, be ready for changes, be patient, and able to work odd and sometimes long hours.
