moving to Lima, Peru in September of 2007. Going to get married next year. They said I need an Unmarried certificate, but my courthouse has never heard of such a certificate. How do I get one and where would I look? Are there any websites about how to get an Unmarried certificate? The certificate is to state that I am not married.

  1. It is called a "certificate of being single" in a word, it's to prove your civil status. If you go to the place where your birth cetificate was issued, you can asked for a status certificate. Each state has it's own laws so you have to ask for it where you were born or where you are currently living. When you go to Peru to get married they will ask for a certificate where it says you are single and able to marry. Any registry office will issue you one.

  2. this is a requirement that states that your are single and not married. otherwise you can not get married in Peru. It is to prevent polygamy.
