I want to give my car away. There are minimal problems with it, main being the head gasket I think (not that mechanically minded here lol) I let it run out of rego, but do I need to give a reciept of some kind to the new owner? If they make infringements how am I protected? I would look up the department of transport site but I couldn't negotiate my way around that site to save my life lol. So yeah, basically, I want to give my car away, how do I protect myself?

I live in Brisbane

  1. Donate it to any charity. They will even tow it for free. They dont care about the condition

  2. All you have to do is sign the title over to the new owner. There's a place on it to sign for that. No receipt needed. Then, go to DMV and give the give the tags back, or put them in the new owner's name. It really shouldn't matter what is wrong with the car unless you're worried about it not passing state inspection when the new owner needs to get it inspected. I live in VA so I'm not sure if you have to get your cars inspected or not?

  3. When you go to the dmv you can ask about the paper you sign stating that you no longer have such  vehcile snd that goes into the state computers. there is a fee for that but that protects you if the new owner doesn't register the vehicle. Sorry, I don't remember the name of the paper. And I only know for sure this is in Texas.
